New to miles? Pull up a stool, kaki. In ten minutes you’ll know what miles are, which cards fit your income, and how the whole family can fly further for less. No atas jargon, promise.

1. What are miles, ah?

Think kopitiam stamp card, but the free kopi is a plane seat. You spend on a miles credit card, the bank gives you points, you transfer those points to an airline programme like KrisFlyer, and then you redeem them for award seats — paying only taxes and fees in cash. “mpd” means miles per dollar: a 4 mpd card turns S$100 into 400 miles.
